The best B2B directories to list your business in 2026, ranked on what it costs to list

Teal title card reading Best B2B directories, ranked on the price to list, with a card of yearly costs from IndiaMART at about $420 to Thomasnet at an estimated $7,000 to $10,000

Listing in a B2B directory can cost nothing or more than $15,000 a year, and the price is rarely on the page. Of the six largest B2B directories we checked, only Alibaba.com and IndiaMART publish their rates. The rest sell paid tiers by quote, which makes the first sales call the moment most suppliers overpay.

That matters because buyers now shortlist suppliers on their own. A Gartner survey found that 61% of B2B buyers prefer a buying experience without a sales rep (Gartner). If a buyer searches an industry directory and you are not there, or sit below competitors who paid for placement, you are not on the list. The real question is which tier is worth paying for, and where.

This guide ranks six of the best B2B directories for manufacturers, suppliers and service firms on the price to list: what is free, what each paid package costs in US dollars, what the upgrade buys and who it suits. Official prices were checked on October 26, 2026. Where a directory sells by quote, we show third-party estimates and label them as such. What a B2B directory listing actually buys

The short answer: a free listing buys presence, a paid listing buys position. Most B2B directories let you list for free, then charge for higher ranking in search results, more products, verification badges, and access to buyer requests or leads.

A trade directory makes money the same way a classified ad section does. The free profile fills the directory, which brings buyers, which makes paid placement worth selling. That means the free tier is genuinely useful but deliberately limited: few products, few keywords and no priority in results.

The paid tiers differ more than the prices suggest. Some sell visibility, such as ranking and keyword advertising. Some sell leads, such as a set number of buyer requests a week. Some sell trust, such as a verified supplier badge after an inspection. Know which one you need before you compare prices, because a cheap package that sells the wrong thing is still expensive.

Our view: start every directory on the free tier, measure inquiries for 90 days, and only upgrade where buyers are already finding you. Paying first and measuring later is how most suppliers end up on a renewal they do not want.

Six B2B directories and what it costs to list

The short answer: IndiaMART has the lowest published paid entry, at about $420 a year, Alibaba.com publishes packages from $2,799 a year in the US, and Thomasnet, Europages, wer liefert was and Kompass all offer a free profile with paid tiers sold by quote.

Prices exclude tax and are converted at October 2026 rates of about 95 Indian rupees and 0.89 euros to the US dollar. Estimates for Thomasnet come from an agency review by WebFX, and for Europages and wer liefert was from agency figures published in 2025. Treat them as starting points for a negotiation, not as quotes.

1. Thomasnet: free profile, premium placement by quote

The short answer: Thomasnet is the leading North American industrial sourcing directory, with a free company profile for qualified suppliers and paid placement sold by quote, typically estimated at $7,000 to $10,000 a year.

Thomasnet is owned by Xometry, which bought Thomas for about $300 million in 2021. Xometry said in early 2026 that Thomasnet lists more than 500,000 suppliers. Qualified North American manufacturers, distributors and service companies can create a company profile at no cost.

In 30 minutes we look at how suppliers and buyers compare directories like yours, on Google and in AI answers, and where you lose them before they list or search.

Paid programs buy placement in category searches, where industrial buyers look for suppliers. Thomasnet does not publish a rate card. An agency review published in November 2025 put typical spend at $7,000 to $10,000 a year, rising to $25,000 to $50,000 or more in crowded categories and falling to a few hundred dollars in niche ones. That range is the point: you are paying for position in your category, so the price depends on how many competitors want the same spot.

Why it ranks first. For North American industrial suppliers, Thomasnet's free profile is the best no-cost listing in this ranking, and its paid placement can be tested against the inquiries the free profile already brings.

2. Alibaba.com: published packages that change by country

The short answer: Alibaba.com publishes its supplier packages, from $2,799 to $8,299 a year in the US, but the same membership costs different amounts in different countries, from about $1,250 in India to $15,999 for the top package in Korea.

Alibaba.com says it reaches 50 million active buyers in more than 200 countries and regions. Suppliers can join as a free member, but most selling features sit in paid memberships. Its US pricing page lists three annual packages: Starter at $2,799, Growth at $3,799 and Advertising Pro at $8,299. They differ mainly in keyword advertising credits, from 500 to 5,000, featured product slots and the number of buyer requests for quotation you can answer each month, from 20 to 40.

Outside the US, the packages and prices change. In India, the Basic package costs ₹119,000 a year, about $1,250, and the Verified package ₹750,000, about $7,900. In Korea, Gold Supplier Basic costs $4,999 a year, and Verified Supplier Growall $15,999, which includes an on-site inspection and a guarantee of 70 qualified opportunities in 180 days.

The country gap is worth knowing. A supplier with entities in two countries may be quoted very different prices for similar features. The guaranteed-opportunity packages are also the rare case in this ranking where a directory commits to a lead volume in writing.

Why it ranks second. The most transparent pricing in this ranking and the widest global buyer base, with the caveat that the useful features start at a paid tier.

3. Europages: free standard profile for European buyers

The short answer: Europages lets suppliers list for free in its standard profile and sells paid tiers by quote, estimated at about $5,360 a year for up to five countries and about $12,075 for all countries with priority ranking.

Europages is run by Visable, the Hamburg company that also runs wer liefert was, and is majority owned by Alibaba.com since 2023. Visable says Europages reaches 1,000,000 buyers a month and lists 2.2 million registered companies. It is free for buyers, and free for sellers on the standard profile.

Paid features include boosted products and top ranking in search results. Visable does not publish prices. Agency figures from 2025 put the Business tier at €399 a month, about $447, covering up to five countries, and Premium at €899 a month, about $1,006, covering all countries with priority ranking. Some categories also carry a pay-per-lead option.

Where to list first: a decision tree for choosing between free and paid B2B directory listings

The value test for Europages is the number of countries you can actually serve. Paying to appear in 30 markets is wasted if you can only ship to five. A supplier with a clear export list should price the Business tier against the inquiries from those countries alone.

Why it ranks third. The strongest free listing for reaching European buyers across borders.

4. wer liefert was: the German-speaking trade directory

The short answer: wer liefert was, or wlw, is the leading trade directory for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with a free basic profile and paid tiers estimated at about $335 to $1,680 a month.

wlw is the second Visable platform, also majority owned by Alibaba.com. It focuses on German-speaking buyers, and lists suppliers for industrial and trade sourcing. Suppliers can create a basic profile for free.

Paid tiers are sold by quote. Agency figures from 2025 list Plus at €299 a month, about $335, Premium at €799, about $894, and Enterprise from €1,499, about $1,678. Reviewers on independent review sites report 12-month contracts that renew automatically, so put the notice date in your calendar on the day you sign. Before paying any renewal, check it matches a signed order: the US Federal Trade Commission warns businesses about invoices for directory listings they never ordered (FTC).

For suppliers selling into the German-speaking region, wlw and Europages are often bought together. Ask for a combined quote and compare it with the two bought separately, because the bundles change by sales cycle.

Why it ranks fourth. The most useful single directory for the German-speaking market, provided you manage the renewal terms.

5. IndiaMART: the lowest published entry price

The short answer: IndiaMART has the lowest published paid entry in this ranking, about $420 a year, and sells packages by the number of buyer leads you receive each week.

IndiaMART is one of India's largest B2B marketplaces. In the quarter to June 2025 it reported 218,000 paying suppliers, 8.4 million supplier storefronts and 29 million unique business inquiries. Listing is free, and its help center publishes the paid packages.

The Mini Dynamic Catalog costs ₹40,000 a year, about $421, and includes 10 buyer leads a week plus one a day. TrustSEAL Pro costs ₹60,000, about $632, with 14 leads a week and a trust badge. Maximiser Pro costs ₹85,000, about $895, with 28 leads a week, your own domain and video. Multi-year terms bring the yearly price down. Higher Star and Leader tiers are sold by quote.

Do suppliers find your directory before a competitor's?

A growth audit maps how suppliers and buyers search for B2B directories, on Google and in AI answers, and which of your category and pricing pages they never reach.

At these prices, the cost per lead is low. The work is in qualifying them. Suppliers who do well on IndiaMART reply fast and filter hard, because volume is the product. Ask how many other suppliers receive each lead, because a lead shared with many competitors is worth far less than one sent to a short list.

Why it ranks fifth. The cheapest published way to buy steady buyer leads, best for suppliers selling into India.

6. Kompass: industry directory with Booster upgrades

The short answer: Kompass is a long-established industry directory covering more than 60 countries, with paid Booster tiers that add keywords, products, languages and ranking, all sold by quote.

Kompass, based in France, says its platform reaches more than 34 million B2B buyers. Its paid tiers are named Booster One, Booster Premium and Booster International. Booster One covers one language, five sectors, five keywords and five products, plus a trusted supplier certificate. Booster Premium adds a second language, unlimited sectors and keywords, 200 products and priority ranking in your home country.

Kompass publishes no prices for any Booster tier. That puts the burden on you: ask for the price of each tier in writing, ask what share of buyers searching your sector come from your target countries, and compare against the inquiries a standard listing already brings.

Why it ranks sixth. Broad international coverage for industrial firms, held back by the least transparent pricing in this ranking.

Three failure scenarios

These are the patterns that recur when suppliers buy directory listings without a plan.

  1. The upgrade before the evidence. A US machine shop buys a premium placement package on the first sales call, at a price at the top of the estimated range. It never measured what its free profile brought in. Twelve months later it cannot tell whether the upgrade paid for itself. Running the free profile for 90 days first, with a tracked phone number and form, would have set a baseline.
  2. The renewal nobody diaried. A German components supplier signs a 12-month premium contract on a trade directory and forgets the notice period. It renews automatically for another year at full price. A calendar reminder 90 days before renewal would have given it a chance to renegotiate or leave.
  3. The invoice that was never ordered. A finance team pays an invoice from a company claiming to renew the supplier's directory listing. There was no such listing. The FTC's guidance for small businesses is not to pay invoices for listings or services you never ordered. One approval rule for every directory invoice would have stopped it.

Each supplier spent money on a listing. None of them had a way to tell whether it was worth it.

Which B2B listing site is worth paying for

The short answer: list for free everywhere your buyers search, measure inquiries for 90 days, then pay only where the free listing already works.

  • If you sell industrial products in the US or Canada, create a free Thomasnet profile first, then ask for a placement quote for your two most important categories only.
  • If you export worldwide and can answer buyer requests within a day, compare Alibaba.com's packages in every country where you have an entity, and favor a package with guaranteed opportunities.
  • If more than a third of your target buyers are in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, list on wer liefert was and Europages, and ask for a bundled quote with the notice period in writing.
  • If you sell into India and can handle volume, start with IndiaMART's free listing, then the Mini Dynamic Catalog at about $420 a year.
  • If you serve several industrial markets in Europe and beyond, add a Kompass listing and ask for written prices before any Booster tier.
  • If a directory cannot tell you how many buyers searched your category last quarter, do not pay for its premium tier.

Running a B2B marketplace or directory?

We help B2B marketplaces and directories recruit the suppliers that make search worth using, and reach the buyers comparing them.

The number to take into your next budget meeting is the cost of each qualified inquiry. Divide the yearly price of a paid tier by the inquiries you can trace to it, and compare that with what a lead costs from your other channels. If you start free and pay only where inquiries already arrive, every dollar of a directory budget, whether $420 on IndiaMART or $8,299 on Alibaba.com's top US package, goes to a channel with a measured return. The biggest cost of doing nothing is an auto-renewal you did not choose, or a fake renewal invoice paid by mistake, which the Better Business Bureau warns can run to several hundred dollars (BBB).

FAQ

What is a B2B directory? A B2B directory is a searchable list of businesses that sell to other businesses, organized by industry, product or location. Buyers use it to find and compare suppliers, and suppliers list to be found.

Are B2B directories free? Most B2B directories offer a free basic listing. Thomasnet, Europages, wer liefert was, IndiaMART and Alibaba.com all have a free option, while paid tiers add ranking, more products, badges and buyer leads.

How much does it cost to list on Thomasnet? A Thomasnet company profile is free for qualified North American suppliers. Paid placement is sold by quote. An agency review in 2025 estimated typical spend at $7,000 to $10,000 a year, and more in crowded categories.

How much is an Alibaba.com Gold Supplier membership? It depends on the country. Alibaba.com's US packages cost $2,799 to $8,299 a year, its India packages ₹119,000 to ₹750,000, about $1,250 to $7,900, and its Korea Gold Supplier Basic package $4,999.

What is the cheapest paid B2B directory listing? Among the six here, IndiaMART has the lowest published paid entry, its Mini Dynamic Catalog at ₹40,000 a year, about $420, including buyer leads each week.

Do B2B listing sites help SEO? A listing can bring referral traffic and help buyers find you on the directory itself, and directory pages often rank for industry searches. Many directory links carry nofollow, so treat any direct ranking benefit as a bonus rather than the reason to list.

How do I avoid directory listing scams? Only pay invoices for listings you can match to a signed order, train staff to check before saying yes on a call, and report fake invoices. The FTC and the Better Business Bureau both warn about invoices for directory listings that were never ordered.
